Alumni Spotlight

During our recent Dorm Burn demonstration, the Environmental Health & Safety Office was able to welcome UNC Charlotte Alumni, Greg Smith, back to campus. Smith graduated in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology. Upon graduating, Smith joined the City of Charlotte Fire Department as a member of Recruit Class 127 and is stationed at Engine 35. Engine 35 is located approximately 2 miles from campus and services the campus community when called. During his tenure as a student, Smith was a member of the Fire and Safety Technologist (FAST) club. EHS and FAST partner each year to host the Dorm Burn demonstration and promote fire safety awareness on campus. This partnership enabled Smith to participate in the dorm room burn demonstration, not as a student, but now as a firefighter!  Great job Greg!
