With summer comes fireworks. The National Safety Council (NSC) advises that fireworks in public displays be conducted by professionals. According to the NSC, “Fireworks start an average of 19,000 fires each year.”

Here are some helpful tips from the National Safety Council to ensure a fun but safe time:

  • Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands
  • Only use them away from people, houses, and flammable material
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person
  • Never light fireworks indoors
  • Keep water close

If not handled properly, sparklers can be dangerous. According to the National Fire Protection Association, “sparklers alone account for more than 25% of emergency room visits for fireworks injuries. For children under 5 years of age, sparklers accounted for nearly half of the total estimated injuries.”
