Below are the environmental health & safety training courses required for all employees in the Research Laboratory environment. Job categories include Students, Faculty, Principal Investigators, etc. Supervisors should ensure all personnel have received training.

| Fire Safety and Prevention 2.0 | In this course, you will learn to identify characteristics of fire, recognize ways to prevent workplace fires, Identify how to respond to fire emergencies, and recognize how to select and use a fire extinguisher. | (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment 2.0 | In this course, you will learn to identify key facts about PPE and its use, identify characteristics of protective clothing materials and protective suits, identify the level of protection that a user is provided when wearing specific types of PPE, and recognize proper donning and doffing techniques for PPE. | 1 Hour Initial | Learning & Development Portal |
| Hazardous Waste Management | The Hazardous Waste Management training course will cover hazardous waste management practices, major components of the University Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan, types of hazardous waste, labeling and hazardous waste pickup requests. | Bloodborne Pathogen Awareness 2.0 | In this course, you will learn a basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of transmission, methods of prevention, and what to do if an exposure occurs. | Cryogenic Safety | This course is designed to familiarize employees with the hazards of cryogenic liquids, markings, storage, usage, and handling precautions necessary in order to control the hazards. Cryogenic materials are commonly used in the workplace for a variety of purposes, such as refrigeration, medical applications, and rocket propulsion. Due to their extremely cold temperatures, cryogenic materials can be hazardous if handled and stored incorrectly. Cryogenic materials are stored in specially designed containers known as dewars and any person handling cryogenic materials must wear personal protective equipment. | 1 Hour Initial | Learning & Development Portal |

| Radiation Producing Devices Safety | This course is intended for radiation workers handling x-ray and other ionizing radiation producing devices. | Fire Extinguisher | This course will address how to prevent fires and recognize fire hazards. It will also discuss what actions to take in the event of a fire, including hands-on proper use of portable fire extinguishers. | 45 Minutes Initial and Annual | Learning & Development Portal |
| Radionuclide Safety | This course covers the UNC Charlotte Radiation Safety Program and is designed for initial users of radioactive materials (RAM) in laboratories. This course can also serve as a refresher course. | Laser Safety | This one-hour course is designed to provide awareness of the fundamentals of Class 3B (moderate) and 4 (high-power) lasers or laser systems. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements. Learner objectives are to: discuss what a laser is and how a laser works, name the types and classes of lasers, describe non-beam laser hazards, recall the biological effects of a laser on the human body, and identify types of control measures. | 1 Hour Initial and Every 3 Years | Learning & Development Portal |
