It is the Principal Investigator’s responsibility to provide written SOPs specific to potential safety and health risks arising from the use of particularly hazardous chemicals. These may include carcinogens, reproductive toxins, highly reactive chemicals, and substances with high acute toxicity.
To assist PI’s in developing their SOPs, EHS has developed templates for a wide variety of chemical hazards. These SOP templates are generally grouped by control bands, which specify a common set of precautions that apply to chemicals with a specific hazard, or combination of hazards, associated with them. Chemicals for which no control band is appropriate retain their own specific SOPs.
SOP templates for both chemical specific and hazard categories can be found below. Please submit a service request to EHS if you require assistance in determining which control band applies to a particular material.
